It's the one with the yellow dustjacket you have in your post. I was chuffed to find it, and it was thanks to your fine review it was in my mind.

Incidentally, have you come across Joe Gores's A Time of Predators? Predates Garfield's novel but has a similar story...Nick Jones (Louis XIV, the Sun King)https://www.blogger.com/profile/17716508525331235684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3574898998296059114.post-27923764169211583142011-11-05T02:57:26.440-04:002011-11-05T02:57:26.440-04:00You're right, Cullen. A glaring oversight, especially considering I read and enjoyed THE ROMANOV SUCCESSION and I've THE PALADIN sitting on my bookshelf. A very fine review by the way. Finding an early edition of this book shouldn't be a problem.Prashant C. He said something about raising the price there on the spot as I waited at the counter, and I assured him he would not have a sale if he did that, and he smartly relented. I have never gone back. But the book is in terrific shape and remains in my TBR pile. I thoroughly enjoyed Death Sentence, the sequel, which I read years ago, so visiting the first "adventure" will be a treat.Brian Drakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01233187184688491057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3574898998296059114.post-14094852580310888642011-11-04T17:42:58.280-04:002011-11-04T17:42:58.280-04:00nice write up sir. well done.nice write up sir. well done.Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08820144289716941452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3574898998296059114.post-49844053754215741312011-11-04T17:24:51.703-04:002011-11-04T17:24:51.703-04:00My thanks for this. Death Wish has been on my mind...My thanks for this. Death Wish has been on my mind since September when I read John Buell's The Shrewsdale Exit, a novel in which vigilantism plays a part and "sudden violence" alters greatly the way in which the protagonist lives and acts. Published within months of each other, It would seem that the two novels have a great deal in common... much, much more than I'd previously thought.

I risk spoiling things in going on, so I'll write nothing more except for this: a Montrealer, I visited New York frequently in the 'eighties before moving to Vancouver. Returning in 2009, after more more than a decade's absence, this outsider agrees that the city has indeed been "Disney-fied beyond belief".Brian Busbyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04120341319506205062noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3574898998296059114.post-51551510940501347982011-11-04T16:57:03.583-04:002011-11-04T16:57:03.583-04:00Another great review of a book I've wanted to ...Another great review of a book I've wanted to read for awhile. Interesting point brought up: as someone who is pretty liberal politically, I've always felt that strange tension between my "bleeding heart" beliefs and my love of violent vigilante stuff like Death Wish or Dirty Harry. I also feel a dark satisfaction whenever I hear of a violent criminal getting his just desserts. It's a contradiction I suspect many of us live with. And it's nice to hear that Garfield's book addresses that.Heath Lowrancehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07009721666729276126noreply@blogger.com
