The japery and self-mockery tended to overwhelm everything else in the novels I tried to read. When he wrote short, he could pack a narrative and emotional punch without sacrificing the humor.
==============
Detectives Beyond Borders
“Because Murder Is More Fun Away From Home”
http://detectivesbeyondborders.blogspot.com/Peter Rozovskyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09977933481463759162noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3574898998296059114.post-30557517312897338982009-02-25T14:36:00.000-05:002009-02-25T14:36:00.000-05:00STRIP FOR MURDER has been on my "to read" list for...STRIP FOR MURDER has been on my "to read" list for too long now. I have a few other Prather novels that I've already bought that are waiting their turn to be read. EVERYBODY HAS A GUN, OVER HER DEAR BODY, and DANCE WITH THE DEAD.

Has anyone read any of his non-Shell Scott novels other than THE PEDDLER? I find it amazing how dedicated Prather was to Scott. Seems that there was very little he wrote that didn't feature that character.Cullen Gallagherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14236957954996740924noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3574898998296059114.post-18483412641847848972009-02-24T21:12:00.000-05:002009-02-24T21:12:00.000-05:00STRIP FOR MURDER is my favorite Shell Scott, but t...STRIP FOR MURDER is my favorite Shell Scott, but they're all good. I like the comment about not being to imagine Shell as anything except a private eye. Another collection of Scott stories is The Shell Scott Sampler. Two of my favorite Shell Scott books are Everybody Had a Gun, and Strip for Murder where Shell goes "undercover" in a nudist colony. I remember reading an interview where Prather said Strip for Murder and Dance with the Dead were his two favorite books. I have a copy of Double Trouble, which pairs Shell Scott and Chester Drum, the book being co-written by Prather and Stephen Marlowe. I haven't read it yet but i hear it is quite enjoyable.Frank Loosehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12564007564601986631noreply@blogger.com
